We aim to deliver a ‘high-quality geography education that will inspire in pupils a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people.’ (National Curriculum2014). Using a variety of resources and making cross curricular links whenever possible. We hope to develop a passion for geography and encourage children to develop an interest in the world around them through enquiry based learning.
‘Enquiry work includes open-ended activities where pupils are independently discovering things for themselves’ (Geographical Association)
In Key stage 1 we study the local area and introduce basic map skills and teach children to ask geographical questions about the world around them.
In Key stage 2 we build on this knowledge to develop map skills and enquiry based learning about the wider world.
Below is an overview of how we cover the National Curriculum through different topics. More information is included in class curriculum newsletters which are sent to parents at the start of each term.
