Summer 1
Welcome back to our final term in Reception! We are looking forward to another jam packed half term full of fun and learning.
In Maths, we will be exploring numbers up to ten an d beyond. We will be noticing patterns and focusing on number bonds. We will continue to build on our knowledge of addition and subtraction, using number sentences to help show and record this.
In English, we will continue using a range of texts to help us develop our love of reading and writing. Some of the texts will include; Jaspers Beanstalk, Coming to England and a range of traditional tales. We will continue to develop our Phonetic knowledge, learning set 2 sounds and using these in our reading and writing.
We will start this term by exploring The Ascention of Jesus in RE. We will be thinking back to our learning from last term about Easter, before discussing what happened next and how Jesus is still with us as we are one of his followers. We will then move on to think about the story of Pentecost.

Our Learning Experiences
We have been enjoying RE this term, exploring the stories of the Ascension and Pentecost. During this weeks lessons, we have explored Pentecost and the signs of the Holy Spirit. We identified the Holy Spirit used wind and tongues or fire to show he was present to the Apostles. We also recognised the Apostles could speak in different languages, this was something that they could not do before, another sign that they were filled with the Holy Spirit. We enjoyed making our own tongues of fire and adding them to headbands to retell the story.

During Maths this week, we have been exploring number bonds to ten. We have learnt a song to help us remember to a tune we all know, 'Row, row, row your boat'. This helped us today especially when we completed a number hunt in the classroom. We had to find a piece of Numicon and then find the partner to match to make ten! We then worked with our partner to write number sentences. We used Kung Fu Maths to help us with the formation of our symbols.

During the Summer term, we are attending Forest School on Wednesday mornings. We loved our first session meeting Jools and Shelia the forest elf. We spoke about safety and where we can play during this time. We can't wait to start using the different areas and explore next week.

In RE, we have been thinking about Jesus and how he showed love and care towards others. We have enjoyed sharing stories from the Bible, in particular 'The Feeding of the 5000'. During RE explore time, we used small world figures to retell the story, whilst some of use enjoyed using weaving to make baskets adding five loaves and two fish. In our next lesson, we recapped on our learning and enjoyed making bread to take home and share with our own families. It smelt delicious!
In Maths, we have enjoyed exploring weight. At the start of the week, we used the vocabulary 'heavier' and 'lighter' to find objects in our classroom and compare them. We did this by feeling the objects. We then had some time to explore the bucket scales! We enjoyed the challenge of making the scales balance

Reading in Reception
Below is a video to support your children with reading at home. The children will start the year with a picture book. The children should be able to tell you the story using the pictures, the children may need some support by questioning them about what they can see and what they notice on each page. As the term progresses, the children will begin to learn more sounds. Once the children have these sounds secure and are able to blend words using this knowledge, they will be sent home with Read Write Inc Book Bag books to support their learning at home.
