Racial Justice, Equality and Diversity
At St John Fisher School, we are committed to being an anti-racist establishment in which diversity is recognised and celebrated, providing equal opportunities for everyone in our community. Our first core value states that we 'welcome, respect and nourish each individual as a unique creation of God.'
Our teachers attend training and use resources provided by the Diocese of Westminster in support of Racial Justice, Equality and Diversity (RJED). In support of Racial Justice Sunday, our chaplaincy team visit classrooms to lead their Celebration of the Word and open up discussions on the theme.
We have a Diversity and Equality committee made up of staff and parents. We meet regularly to reflect on all aspects of diversity, to consider our strengths as a school, and look at actions we can take to move forward and improve.
Our school library and classroom reading corners have books with a diverse range of characters, ensuring our pupils see themselves reflected in the stories we share. During the school year, we recognise and celebrate a range of theme days and weeks which reinforce this message of inclusion, such as:
- Show Racism the Red Card
- Anti-Bullying Week
- Racial Justice Sunday
- Black History Month
- Cultural Day
