Summer 1 Update
We are excited to welcome the children back after the Easter break! This term there are many exciting learning opportunities for pupils to enjoy, including our Explorers theme in Humanities, learning about plants and growth in Science, collage and contrast in Art and preparing fruit safely in DT! On Mondays, the children will benefit from a PE coach to teach them the skills required in striking and fielding games, such as cricket and rounders. Please see the Summer Curriculum Overview for more.
Things to Remember
- Forest school is every Wednesday morning for Year 1 pupils. Children will need a pair of wellies, which can be kept in school, and appropriate waterproofs on the day. Pupils should come in their PE kit.
- PE is on Mondays for both Year 1 and 2 pupils, and Wednesdays for Year 2 pupils (while Y1 have forest school). To simplify things, we would like ALL children to come to school in their PE kit on both Mondays and Wednesdays.
- Homework is set every Thursday and is due back the following Wednesday (or before if complete).
- Library visits will take place Fridays and Thursdays, with borrowed books due back after the weekend.
- Spelling quiz takes place on Friday for some pupils in Y2.

Our Learning Experiences
History: The children loved handling a wide range of toys from the last century during our Nelly's Toy Box workshop, including spinning tops, yo-yos, kaleidoscopes, a zoetrope and a very well-loved teddy bear!
English: We started the summer term reading Paddington's Post, which has been a big hit with the children! They have enjoyed writing about the story so far and writing letters and postcards to the characters.

Science
To finish our unit on Materials we have made boats! First we needed to think about what a boat needs to be able to do. We looked at a range of boats and realised that they all floated and were all waterproof. The children used this knowledge to help them make heir own boats. It was lots of fun, especially testing them out on water!
- Art This term we are exploring collage. We are learning about the land artists Richard Long and Patrick Heron and responding to their work. We will notice how the artists overlap and stick down materials to create their collages. We will think about how the materials sometimes contrast each other and incorporate this feature in our own work. Here are some photos of the children creating collages with natural materials found in our school grounds. We were inspired by Richard Long's circles made from stones.
