Summer Term 2026

Welcome to the Summer Term in Year 5. It has been lovely welcoming the children back refreshed and ready to learn after the Easter Break.   We hope that the children are well rested and ready for a busy term of learning and fun.

We are looking forward to a history activity on the Dark Ages, our class assembly, Sports Day and our 60th school anniversary Mass.

In our Maths lessons and Home Learning tasks we will be using the skills we have acquired in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to explore our new topics of Percentages, Area and Perimeter and Position and Movement.

Our current English topic this term will help us to write a mystery and suspense story .  The children will be creating their own story which will allow them to be very creative.  Through our English topics we will continue to look at writing in paragraphs, using fronted adverbials, relative clauses, subordinate clauses and expanded noun phrases. This term we will also look at how we can make our writing even more impactful with the use of parenthesis, adverbs of possibility and modal verbs.

Things to Remember

  • PE is on Tuesday and Wednesday
  • Homework is set at the end of the day on Wednesdays  and should be returned by the following Tuesday

If you finish your homework early and return it the following day, you will receive 2 house points

  • Please read regularly with your child and record with a parents signature:

Children should read at least 5 times a week and get a parent's signature. Your child will then get 1 house point!

Children should try to read for at least 15-20 minutes each day.

When children finish their book, remind them to take their test on the Accelerated Reader programme.

We now have stamps for Reading Records so the children can show off just how many words they have read - who will be our first millionaire?!

  • Spellings - Please encourage the children to practise with activities such as 'read, cover, write, check' or writing each letter in a different bright colour of the rainbow.
  • The children also have logins for TTRS (Times Table Rockstars),Google Classroom and Purple Mash.  Logins will be in their Reading Records.
  • Please continue to support your child's learning by encouraging them to practise both their times tables and handwriting, alongside all the lovely reading they are doing.
