Summer Update
Welcome to the final term of your journey at St John Fisher! Where has the time gone?
This term is set to be an exciting and memorable one, with plenty to look forward to. We have SATs, PGL, Enterprise Week, and many more fun activities planned.
It’s a busy term, but also a special time to make lasting memories as you come to the end of your time here. Let’s make it a fantastic final term together!
Learning this term
English:
We will begin by exploring biographies, focusing on key features and how they are structured. Pupils will then apply their learning by writing their own biography of Sir David Attenborough, in celebration of his 100th birthday in May.
Following this, we will move on to essay writing, where children will learn how to plan and structure a clear, well-supported response. Our focus will be on climate change, with particular attention to its impact on polar regions.
To finish the term, we will study narrative writing through the text A Kind of Spark by Elle McNicoll. Pupils will develop their storytelling skills, with a specific emphasis on using dialogue effectively to move the plot forward and create engaging, dynamic narratives.
Maths:
We will complete the Year 6 curriculum by covering the topics of position and movement, graphs and averages, and negative numbers.
Once these areas have been secured, pupils will revisit key learning from across the Year 6 programme of study in preparation for their SATs and to support a smooth transition into Year 7.
Towards the end of the term, we will engage in a range of mathematical investigations to deepen understanding and encourage problem-solving skills. Pupils will also explore real-world maths through budgeting activities, applying their knowledge in a practical context as part of our enterprise project.
Geography:
We will explore the topic of rainforests, focusing on their location, climate, and rich biodiversity. Pupils will learn about the importance of rainforests to the planet, including their role in regulating the global climate and supporting a wide range of plant and animal life.
We will also examine the concept of sustainability, considering the impact of human activity on rainforest environments. Pupils will discuss ways in which these vital ecosystems can be protected and managed responsibly for future generations.
