Autumn 1 Update

Welcome back to a new school year. I hope you have all had a restful summer. The hard work begins to prepare the children for the SATs in May.

This half term we will start the Year 6 Curriculum. In maths, we will explore numbers to ten million, how to use the four operations and fractions. In English, we will start by looking at the book 'Night of the Gargoyles' by Eve Bunting. We will explore character descriptions and will write our own short story thinking carefully about our reader. Our History focus this term is the impact of war and we will be looking at World War II in detail.

We have a couple of enrichment experiences planned this half term. On Wednesday 2nd October, we will be going to the London Road fire station to take part in a workshop. This workshop is to help to assess the risks and dangers of everyday activities. Then on Thursday 17th October, we will be going to Pizza Express to take part in a Design and Technology morning. We will learn how to make a pizza from scratch. After we have learnt these skills we will make our own pizza that we can eat after!

Things to Remember

- PE is on a Wednesday and Thursday. Remember to wear your PE kits on this day.

- Homework goes out on a Friday and is due back the following Wednesday.

- Spellings are tested on a Friday morning.

Our Learning Experiences

Art- 5/9/24 - We have started our painting unit. We explored the artist Patrick Heron and have created our own versions of his work.

RE- 3/9/24 - We have revisited the schools core values, to remind us what we as a school expect from all children. We created posters to help the younger children understand what each statement means.

PE- 11/9/24- We have been learning how to be a good sportsman/ sportswoman. We have completed bench ball in a friendly manner.

Crucial Crew- 2/10/24- Year six, went on their first school trip of the year to the London Road fire station. We spent the afternoon looking at different scenarios and learning how to deal with them in an appropriate way.
